A2 Music Video: Final Choice Of Song

Based on various factors such as questionnaires, elimination, and listening to the song repeatedly I have decided which song is going to be featured in my music video, this song will be by the female artists Jessie J, it is called ‘Who You Are’.

I asked 20 people from my target audience which of these songs (from the ones I had originally considered) would they prefer to see chosen for my music, video here are the results as shown in the tally chart: Jessie J: Who you are; 9, Beyoncé: Halo; 5, Lana Del Rey: Video games; 3, Lana Del Rey: Born to die; 2, Paloma Faith: Picking up the pieces; 1.

From these results it is clear which  song my target audience would like me to do and therefore the song that I will be choosing is based on my research and opinion and also my target audience’s opinion: ‘Who You Are’ by Jessie J.

Choosing a song...

It is essential that I choose the right genre and style of song to feature in my music video; additionally, the song should be no more than 3 minuets, or there about to make it easier for me to film. There are various songs that I have considered by listening to them repeatedly and imagining what shots etc I would use to accompany certain lyrics.

A2 Music Video: Target Audience

Target Audience- ‘Particular group of people, identified as the intended recipient of an advertisement or message. Also called target population.’

After much deliberation I have decided that the target audience of my music video is going to be people who are interested in my chosen genre: Soul/Pop and are 13+, I have chosen this age range as there is no older age limit as certain people have certain tastes, even older generations. Additionally, people of this age will be able to appreciate the lyrics and visual aspects rather than younger children who prefer the ‘Pop’ genre and artists such as ‘The Saturdays’ and ‘Justin Bieber’.

I eliminated certain groups of people, for instance people ages:

·        6-12

·        Primarily 40+

After considering and researching various genres and their music I have decided that the genre that I am most likely to choose for my A2 Music Video is Soul/Pop.

It is known that modern music artists have hybrid genres for instance Soul, Pop and R&B such as Paloma Faith, Emile Sande and Jessie J.

Music Video or Film Trailer?

For my A2 media project I had to decide whether I wanted to create a music video or a film trailer. After considering both options and the advantages and disadvantages of both I decided the option that I was going to take was the music video. After deciding this I worked out the factors I would have to decide about my music video for instance genre and target audience.
